Help Wanted To ID Break-in Suspect

By Chad Nesbitt

Leicester – Law enforcement officials are seeking the public’s help in a break-in. On Thursday, April 6th, at approximately 11:30 pm, someone broke into a church van at Newfound Baptist Church located at 2605 New Leicester Hwy.

Surveillance video captured a young man described as a white male, medium build, wearing a hoodie and a T-shirt with a unique logo, possibly a Hurly logo as the suspect.

The incident report describes the van as a 2017 grey Ford Transit van. The passenger window was busted open to gain access to the inside — approximately $500 worth of damage and property loss. A first aid kit and a phone charger were reported stolen.

The video shows the man walking south on New Leicester Hwy before walking onto church property and allegedly breaking into the van. After the break-in, the man returned the way he came walking north. Church Security Officer Bill Beck said, “It’s possible he lives near the church, and we are hoping someone recognizes him.”

The Leicester Crime Prevention Group has offered a reward for information leading to the arrest of this individual. If you have information about this crime or can identify the suspect, please contact the Buncombe County Sheriffs Department at 828-255-5555.
