Flat Creek – A late Friday (Nov. 30) evening press release has confirmed what many have suspected ever since a fire destroy the Weaverville Tire & Wheel business on Friday, October 26. The business is own by Shad Higgins, who at the time of the fire was running for Buncombe County Sheriff.
“The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) was requested to assist with the fire scene examination and any subsequent criminal investigation. The cause of the fire was determined by fire investigators to be incendiary (an intentional act and criminal in nature),” says the release sent by State Agent M. H. Davis with the Western District of the SBI in Asheville.
Weaverville Tribune sources, including firefighters who worked the blaze and who wished to remain anonymous, told this to contributing reporter Chad Nesbitt weeks ago and he reported on the information in several Facebook posts.
“The SBI is requesting anyone who has specific information about this fire, or who saw someone at the business or vehicles/pedestrians traveling in the area of 176 Old Mars Hill Highway, Weaverville, North Carolina between 2:00 am and 4:45 am on Friday, October 26, please call 828-330-4556. Please leave your name, contact information and a brief summary of the information you have and someone will contact you.” The fire at 176 Old Mars Hill Highway occurred at approximately 4:45 am.
“No other details other than what are in the release are available at this time, ” said Davis.
