Leicester – Appalachian Mountain Community Health Centers (AMCHC) welcomes bilingual pediatrician Alberto Luis Léon, M.D., to the Leicester Com- munity Health Center. Dr. Léon has more than 40 years of experience as a pediatri- cian and is fluent in English and Spanish. He is now accepting new patients and all children are welcome.
A native of New York City, Dr. Léon graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in physics from the University of Puerto Rico at the Rio Piedras Campus, with several science minors, including pre- med. He earned his medical degree from the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine, and completed his residency at the San Juan City Hospital.
Dr. Léon has worked in Florida with the Farm Workers Health Association, helping to develop pediatric care in multiple clin- ics and earning an award for excellence in care for the medically underserved, includ- ing migrant farm workers. He worked as a civilian with the U.S. Navy for more 17 years in Jacksonville, Florida, and was se- nior pediatrician of the Mayport Clinic be- fore moving to Dallas to work at Los Bar- rios Unidos Community Clinic. Dr. Léon has three daughters and three grandchil- dren and takes pride in serving the AM- CHC community.
The Leicester Community Health Center is located at 711 New Leicester Highway and is open from 7:40 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday. In addition to pediatric care, the clinic also provides primary care and behavioral health services. AMCHC serves self-pay, Medicaid, Medicare and traditionally-insured patients.
