Erwin’s new athlete director working hard

EHS – Barry Owen’s is the new athletic director (AD) at Erwin High School. He comes to Erwin from North Buncombe High School where he was the athletic director for four years. Immediately after taking up his new position as Erwin’s new AD, Owens hired Sheridan Pressley as the school’s new head volleyball coach and Dylan Jones as head baseball coach.

Parents tell the Leader that a lot of improvements have been made to the football field and the school in general. School administrators say they owe that to Barry Owens.

“He is diligent”, said Donna Meadows, secretary to Erwin High Principal Greg Bailey. Meadows said, “He has had us all out there working. He wants people to take pride in our Warriors.”

Erwin supporter Lisa Smart said, “I have a niece on the cheerleading team and noticed new paint on the fence all around the stadium. It looks nice.”

“The new gates look nice and it looks like the athletic director got all that pink paint up off the football field. I don’t know how they did it but gone’” said Joyce Wright a parent of a student in the band.

Other improvements to the field include a painted walkway leading to the football stands.

In an interview earlier in July, Owens told the Leader he wants the community to be proud of Erwin High School. Owen’s said, “All of the kids attending Erwin deserve the best because they are the best. We have worked hard getting the football stadium ready for the community and the kids!”
