Firefighters Quickly Dispatch Blaze

Leicester –The Leicester Fire Department responded to a blaze that occurred on Saturday night (April 27th) at 3150 New Leicester Highway at approximately 11:13 pm.

This address is directly across the street from the Leicester General Convenience Store. Leicester Fire Dept Chief Chris Brown said, “There used to be a beauty salon there, but there is no longer. There is an apartment attached to the building, but was unoccupied during the fire.”

Firefighters arrived on the scene at 11:16 pm according to Brown, who said, “We were able to contain the fire, and there was minimal damage to the structure.” He added, “The fire is currently under investigation with the Asheville Buncombe Arson Task Force.” The fire was under control by 11:20 pm.

While mutual aid was dispatched, Brown said that they had the fire under control before the other departments arrived and had Buncombe Dispatch put the other units back in service. Leicester Fire had two units on the scene along with about eight fire personnel. The initial Incident Commander was Lt. James Kelley with Brown taking over when he reached the site.

All units cleared the scene by 12:48 am.
