Leicester – On September 25th, a female child was allegedly abducted and then set out on the side of the road near the Indian Hill Dr/New Leicester Highway area in the Leicester community. This area is about one mile north past the old Trading Post. It is about four miles from the Madison County line. The 10-year-old is now safe and with her parents.
However, the alleged abductor is still at large. He is said to be a blond male with earrings in both ears and missing several teeth. The alleged abductor is said to be driving a red van with a dark red or brown stripe that goes over the top of the van. It has a cracked glass window in the rear and a sliding door on the side. There is a heart-shaped sticker reportedly on the back of it, possibly on the glass.
A woman who found the child spoke with the Leader. The woman, who asked to remain anonymous, said she didn’t see the van. “I only drove up on the little one running down the side of the road.” The woman said that after passing the girl she turned back around and picked her up and “…took her to my house to call 911.” This occurred about 7:45 pm.
Leicester resident Donna Buckner said, “This woman (lady that found the child) is a hero. Nobody stops to help people anymore. They are afraid to get involved. If she hadn’t stopped that man could have come back around and got that little girl again.”
The Leader went LIVE on Facebook soon after asking for tips from anyone who has seen a van that matches that description in the area. Several tips came in and the Leader passed them on to the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Department.
The Leader stopped by the BP Station convenience store on Leicester Highway. The clerk there said the sheriff’s department is reviewing the surveillance video to see if this van and the person driving it came to the store. Wayne Gossett, at Gossett’s Convenience Store, said he was reviewing his video of the date in question to see if he notices a red van and its driver.
Most of the tips that came in during the Leader LIVE broadcast were from the north end of Buncombe County. Several people messaged that they had seen a vehicle matching the description of the van and the alleged abductor.
However, despite the tips, Buncombe County Sheriff detectives are still searching for this van. The Madison County Sheriff’s Department is also looking for this van. Law enforcement asks the public to be on the lookout for this van. If you have any information please contact the Buncombe County Sheriff’s department at 828-255-5555.
